For MEN1 related pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor some patients suffer from functional tumor, including gastrinoma,insulinoma, but others are non-functional.So far most of MEN1 papers reported that menin regulate pancreatic islet growth or proliferation.The logic seems to be that MEN1 mutation increases pancreatic beta cells proliferation and then develops insulinoma and secrets redundant insulin into blood.But the direct relation between MEN1 mutatio and insulin secretion is still unknown. Could MEN1 mutation increase insulin secretion?
MEN 1 include multiple endocrine tumors of the pancreatic islets, the parathyroid glands and anterior pituitary.The most common MEN 1 related tumor is Insoulinoma. MEN 1 encodes the protein menin. In cells with a high level of menin expression, insulin secretion was inhibited. This odservation suggest that menin inhibits insulin promoter activity and secretion.
