There are different fulvic acids-base products in the market for soil aplication in agro-productive systems. Is it posible that FA can be converted into HA in a period of months under irrigated and cultivated soil condition? We have and are checking data from some pot experiments (5-6 months) that indicated that FA application at high rate to a fertile soil increased both the FA and especially the HA content in the soil.
To the comment by Thomas, I would add a question: how specifically were FA and HA fractions quantified? Was it basic extraction followed acidic precipitation or some other procedures? In addition, some others consider humic substances as a kind of conglomerate of relatively small units (fulvic acid-like?).

In regard to the questions:
1- Applied HA and FA were obtained by extraction of mature compost.
2- HA and FA extraction from the organic materials and soil was perfmormed by following typical NaOH extraction and HCl acidification for HA precipitation.

Abstract
Fulvic acids are those components of soil organic matter that remain soluble after a dilute alkaline extract of the soil is acidified to pH 2 (refs 1, 2). This extraction procedure has been applied to marine sediments, and the organic compounds so recovered have been called marine sedimentary fulvic acids. These fulvic acids are thought to form more complex humic substances in marine sediments by condensation reactions.
one more (cautious) thought is that fulvic acid fraction may contain water sokuble polysaccharydes which are not precipitable by acid but be involved in multiple condensation reactions finally leading to humic-like matter...
Fulvic acid combine to form humic acid. If sufficient carbonaceous material is found in soil it takes 60-80 days to convert.
