Chemical fertilizers could not be completely replaced by biofertilizers. Biofertilizers are not so much available as chemical fertilizers. To get more crop yield we have to apply additional chemical fertilizers.
Biofertilizers can replace 50 % of chemical fertilizers. I think the combined application of chemical and biofertilizer is a good approach to obtain a higher yield.

I don't think chemical fertilizer can entirely be replaced. Probably a combination of both biofertilizer and chemical fertilizer would suffice.
Perhaps a replacement of chemical fertilizers with biofertilizers will be a necessary shift due to either an exhaustion of extractable fertilizers (e.g.: guano and/or those containing phosphorous), and/or the fact that we will eventually run out of oil and being most synthetic fertilizers oil derivative, there will be a need to employ alternative methods of fertilizing agricultural soils. Agronomic practices such as crop rotation, green manuring, cover cropping, companion cropping, etc. will complement the efficacy of biofertilizers (as demonstrated already by various studies in agroecology, organic and biodynamic farming).
At present, if we look at the agricultural management, we have to use some of the sustainable agriculture practises say for bio fetilizers as it enhance microbial activity, improve soil fertility and productivity as well but it's complete adoption by farmers so as to replace of chemical fertilizers are quite difficult...this can be incorporated by adopting an approach of integrated application of different nutrient management pillars like different organic manures along with different chemical and bio fertilzers also..
I don't think so that there will be complete replacement of chemical synthetic fertilizers by bio fertilizers..
Use of these bio fertilzers may be included in any of the INM by this, chemical fertilizeration may be reduced to some extent or to a greater extent also..
However there must be complete replacement but limitations related with socioeconomic concerns, farmer's risk bearing ability as well as risk of the yield loss may divert the farmers to adopt.
The key objective for achieving high yields needs a wide use of chemical fertilizers, so farmers utilize chemical fertilizers frequently in spite of it being costly and causing environmental problems such as soil erosion problem . In addition extreme application of chemical fertilizers result in ecological pollution and affect on fruit quality . I think the farmers in the world depend on chemical fertilizers to maintain their crops, but few of them are using organic fertilizers and may be no one applies bio fertilizers to support the soil, therefore the current direction is application of bio fertilizers versus a reduction of chemical fertilizers.

In order to expand the efficacy of biofertilizers, let us not forget the utility of periodical application of organic manures , green manurig , mulches , crop residues etc , the microbes turn ove rthe nutrients tagged withese sources into the soil , since microbes themselves are not the source of biofertilizers.

Most of the biofertilizers response studies have been carried out with single microbial inoculation. Studies using multiple inoculations are extremely lacking , especially response of microbes in consortium mode. Application of microbial consortium could further save on chemical fertilizers. Saving upto 40 % is not a surprise , especially in fruit crops. I have already attached few published reviews , rice alone is not the crop we are debating here.
My own field experience with application of microbial consortium in fruit crops advocates this hypothesis, there is likelihood , we can save fertilizers more than 40% provided soils are fertilized with green manuring , crop residues and organic manures with a purpose to feed the microbial population of soil , instead of feeding the soil for meeting out the nutrient requirements....

We have developed some Biofertiliser products based on microbial consortium and having some reports that proves 40 % chemical reduction with consortium microbes will boost the yield as well as promotes soil health.
Considering the growing population and increase in demand for food supply, it is impossible to replace chemical fertilizer with biofertilizer. However, with help of integrated nutrient management, there is a need to increase the Biofertilizer usage for sustainability and susceptibility.
To get rapid growth we need to apply some chemical fertilizers but excessive use of it is not good for plant and soil health.
The contributions of chemical fertilizers should be reduced with the increasing contributions of biofertilizers and organic fertilizers such as manure and compost. Char materials (biochar and coal char) used as a soil amendment along with manure provided even better plant growth results.
