When I study the density of states (DOS) of a specific nanoribbon material (e.g., graphene nanoribbon) with fixed width and length, I see that the plot is between energy and DOS, with energy on the x-axis and DOS on the y-axis, or vice versa. The unit of energy is electron-volts (eV). However, the unit of DOS seems confusing to me. In some papers, I found it in arbitrary units, while in others, I saw it as states per eV or states per eV per atom. Why do the units of DOS differ?
