Dear colleagues, how do you think about applying Pearson's R or Spearman's Rho correlation analysis on the panel data? Is possible to meaningfully interpret the results? Do you know any study or research that would fit my question? I highly appreciate your help.

Have you checked your dataset in terms of any violations to assumptions of these tests? Or you simply refer to them as equivalents of each other? If your measurement are taken from an ordinal scale, Spearman's rho will be a better fit.

Thank you for your reply. So far, I haven't tested the variables for normality. I know that if the data is not normally distributed, then Spearman's Rho is a better choice. Moreover, my data set covers the indicators such as GDP per capita, Government spending, E-governance Development Index and etc. However, correlation analysis is usually used in time series. Even if the data set does not violate the assumptions of the correlation analysis, I have not come up with the correlation analysis applied on panel data so far. That is the reason why I asked this question.

So I suggest implementing a regression analysis. If you have collected data at several intervals, you may also consider a general linear model or mixed -effects analysis.
