I study the heavy metal pollution in sediment, is there a widely used standard reference of allowed/safe heavy metal composition in sediment? As there are different types of reference according to country.
..as suggested u can use country-specific guidelines/ acceptable limits or u can use documented World Surface- Rock Average (WSA) or Average Shale Content for metals.

References varies with soil type and region. Like I use estuarine reference material as I work in mangroves. As for standard metal concentration I would recommend you go through Hakanson background shale values of pre-industrial reference. I am attaching link of two papers where both these have been used together which may be of some use to you.
