I require to justify research gap and objectives in parametric optimization of EDM machining specifically for MMC material Al/SiCp. Could you compare electric discharge machining with other machining processes used specific for Al/SiCp machining used in automobile, aviation, defence parts. How EDM is the best suited process as compared to other machining processes?
I think it is difficult to specify the EDM process to machine Al/SiCp because this process is slowly operation and give poor surface (rough layer) and can use traditional processes to manufacture parts (turning,milling,drilling,grinding) and let EDM process for complex shapes.

Respected sir, I agree with EDM slow process but as I am interested to know benefits of EDM in comparison with conventional processes.
If you ignore the actual material removal process, you can compare EDM with other processes in terms of feed rate, surface finish, kerf width & HAZ. Along with geometry possible (as well as geometry limitations - eg shape of corners) and thickness of material that can be machined. Tool life / cost against material volume removed & time taken. You can also directly compare Wire eroding against spark eroding using a shaped electrode.

I have asked for benefits of EDM process over other conventional machining process like milling, drilling etc. used on Al/SiCp mmc material.
Why EDM machining is the best for Al/SiCp not other processes. and If other processes are well then why EDM process is considered for research in parametric optimization of EDM ? Kindly send the latest reference papers for this type of research mentioning specific application if any.
Al/SiCp is hard, material removal using EDM is not a direct function of material harness like it is in conventional machining. Why EDM process is considered for research in parametric optimization of EDM I have no answer other than it is likely to be related to the level of control available on typical machines which might allow parametric control.
The benefit of EDM process is to machine difficult shapes or complex and hard which are difficult by traditional machining.
I agree with Prof Saad Kariem Shather. EDM is used to machine complex shapes apart from its machinability requirements. Conventional Machines may be used for quick MRR and better SR where as EDM can be used for making hard to machine shapes on the alloy.
