Yesterday in a sample of activated sludge most individuals of one species of Vorticella had stalks with myonema, which wasn't continous.

Is it typicall for some species? Or does it indicate the condition of this ciliate (old? stressed? other?) or the conditions in the environment?

The zooid looked ok, their oral cilia were "working" normally.
