Chitosan antibacterial effect can be retained by succinylation or make it into nanoparticle (i"m still confusing with this statement). Is there any others possible ways of this retainable procces?
Is it possible if in the neutral substrate, chitosan antebacterial effect can be retained to?

Chitosan is a natural non-toxic biopolymer derived by the deacetylation of chitin. Chitosan and its derivatives have attracted considerable interest due to their antimicrobial and antifungal activity.1–3 Chitosan exhibits its antibacterial activity only in an acidic medium because of its poor solubility above pH6.5.4 The antibacterial activity of chitosan is influenced by a number of factors that include the type of chitosan, the degree of chitosan polymerization and some of its other physicochemical properties. Chitosan exhibits higher antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative bacteria. The antibacterial activity of chitosan also depends on the molecular weight and solvent,5 and is inversely affected by pH, with higher activity at lower pH values.

One of the most prevalent way to retain chitosan antibacterial property is to make it into nano-particles (with the addition of some bioprotectants such as trehalose or polyethylene glycol). Also we can use several substituted chitosan like carboxymethyl chitosan(CMC). Recently, Positive charge rich trimethyl chitosan (TMC) displayed enhanced antibacterial activity compared to Chitosan. The increase in the pH, dialysis etc., are also some methods to retain its antibacterial property.
Moreover, methods to retain a materials antibacterial property also depends on its applications.
