I don't see any issue with Chat GPT if used in academic writing as long as the researcher refers to the source. Universities have started banning Chat GPT. It is a wrong move, In the publication world academicians have introduced many wrong practices. It is a tool ( technology), if people use it let them use. You can raise your boundary in terms of academic standard.

I agree with the viewpoint of Dr Prafulla Nath of not seeing an issue. I have also seen universities who have banned it. I would take a different approach. I think we should work with people that use it - that we adapt for people who take the option of using it. They also need to understand the limitations. I think The University of Sydney, has a good approach: providing information in a respectful way and saying that it should be linked to academic honesty guidelines. Of course, they have recognised the advantages and disadvantages together.

I have now started to integrate AI tools in what i do, and they are very useful in summarizing search results. But I have encountered a problem i have not seen before, namely that the AI will invent arguments and connections between things and then present this to me as it were facts. When I then ask further questions, the AI tool says that Henry James wrote no such story as the Ai tool previously claimed etc. This goes to show, if this is common, that AI is still not able to evaluate the validity of its conclusions as well as a human. But it can simplify online searches through its ability to summarize.

It can produce a well formulated prose text, but it is not able to distinguish between a dog called Ibsen and the playwright, which means that it will present flawed logical links with absurd confidence. Personally I have only found two uses for AI, summarizing search results and image generation. A lot of the time, I sit and correct the AI, which jumps to conclusions. I ask it to translate something, and it leaves out or adds things. I ask about historical sources, and it mentions wrong sources.

And when I asked it to whom NPR had lost market shares the last five years, it first refused to tell me that it was iheartmedia, and it then refused to tell me that iheartmedia's most popular show, Armstrong & Getty, is a conservative news show. In stead it lectured me on media ethics. So, I had to google and find information myself. It was very very odd. However, in terms of image generation, I see huge problems for painters and graphic artists in terms of income. Their revenue model might collapse at any time.
