The Charpy test can be conducted in different orientations of the specimen such as T-S, L-S T-L, & L-T. In which direction V-notch is cut in weld samples or what is the preferred notch direction in weld samples and what is the reason for selecting that particular direction in welds?

The orientation of the Charpy V-notch specimens should be such as to reproduce the desire path for example in fracture assessment is the fracture direction based on flaw under consideration.

We knew foop stress was largest one among any other stress in RPV, so we cut RPV mock up in that direction. We used not only Çharpy specimen but also CT specimen. All specimen were cut in only one foop direction.
