Are all top ranking Journals not charging money from Authors. If charging fee, is it ethical?
I think most of the high impact journals do not charge article processing fees. However, a few of them do and it is ethical.
High impact journals or even most journals especially those indexed in web of science do not accept fees for either handling or publication, except if the authors wishes to publish their research work in open access. In open access, authors pay for the publication after normal peer review process.

If the fees is charged in the form of article processing charges, then it is ethical. But if the fees is being charged as publication charges, then it may not be considered ethical. In this context, we must note the fact that most top journals in the world do not charge any such fees.

I am happy to pay money for a quick review of the article. Not sure all top journals are free of charge. Top journals takes months to review an article. I have waited 8-9 months to receive a review which I believe it is absurd.
The researcher should not take fees because he spends a lot on the completion of the research. Unfortunately, publishing research has become a business that requires money to be published.
As per charging publication fee few years back I have expressed my views which I submit herewith for your kind perusal
The question is posed that researcher who is publishing his research desires that his knowledge & contribution should be know to we readers .For publishing the article in the magazine it is a very unhealthy practice that magazine demands money from the writer.
The writer should not encourage it we must have a faith in our working & sooner or later good work is bound to speak & in such cases a writer should not go for his name by publishing his article with the payment in the magazine .

Nowadays, many reputable journals provide authors with the open access option in which you pay publication charges. This is a matter of choice and preference and may be helpful for some authors.
charging fee is not an issue but they need to provide a complete cost of publishing one journal and also the revenue generated by them from subscription or any other way. It will help to understand whether they're charging fair amount or not.
Many journals charge article processing charges (APC) for maintaining the cost of running their journals
Most journals charge exorbitant amount of APC, which may go as high as 1000 to 3000 US Dollars
Indeed some high ranked Journals do charge APC and others don't. The question that may also linger is how do those Journals that do not charge APC survive, through annual subscriptions only?

it is your choice. You can find the fee information on the journal autheur information page before sending the publication.
Most of the journals are quite flexible when it comes to publishing papers. If the authors are not paying, the journal will take the accessing fee from the readers.
you can publish articles for free. In that case, costs of publishing will be paid by subscriptions, i.e. universities, institutions, etc. who want to read that journal.
I think it is no question of ethics. There is a demand, there will be a supply.

I think that the problem is a very big Publication Fee in Open sources journal, such as 800 - 1800 Euro. I'd like journals with royalties to authors, but at the current time such a journal is a dream and miracle.
