How to import .dxf file from PADS layout into HFSS and see the antenna parameters on the PCB in the layout.
I have tried importing .dxf file from PADS to HFSS but it doesnt give a 3D view. Means the patch and ground overlap each other. I want to see the PCB antenna performance for WLAN design. For which I have the PADS layout. How to get it done in HFSS???
I think .dxf files contain primitive 2D objects like points, lines, circles, polylines etc. To my knowledge there is no 3D information in .dxf files. So if you want to use this file format you have to export every single layer from PADS seperately and imoprt these to HFSS. This will result in flat sheets, which you will have to extrude to solid objects.
To do so select the sheet, right click on it, edit, surface, thicken sheet. You might have to move your sheets to the right "height" to overcome intersections. Furthermore you need to assign the right material to your objects.
Another way to go might be a 3D CAD exchange format. I did not use any and don't know what formats PADS supports for export.
Whenever imporiting .dxf file...I cannot select each and every object i.e. there is no separate sheet, box created . It just shows that this file is imported and the link from which it imported. So the problem is I can edit it in HFSS.
Can we do that in 3D CAD format? Can you provide any reference file.

It seems to be impossible to edit imported geometry in hfss. So if you really need to modify the board design after import, you could import the dxf to matlab and make hfss create your geometry through matlab (control hfss via matlab). This geometry will be easy to modify in hfss.
