The vaccines CAN be trusted for a range of reasons:
-it is not in the interests of the manufacturers to get this wrong; their reputations are what they trade on..... and a crippling blow to reputation would be irrevocable;
-the lessons learnt from the SARS-CoV-1 virus, where a vaccine was under development but then never completed due to its necessity waning; what was learnt from the original outbreak of the earlier SARS-CoV-1 was able to be leveraged to the development of the current virus;
-the time to develop the vaccine has been accelerated by the sheer number of cases infected globally; and the ability to have large sample populations where the vaccine could be trialed as exposure to the agent was clearly going to be high. Building a very large, statistically significant, number of cases and controls was much quicker than in situations where disease rates are quite low, and where time to phase 3 completion is very elongated;
-the technology to be able to map the genome so rapidly , and understand the molecular structure of the virus, made it faster to identify the target proteins to which to build a vaccine against
And the above are just the few reasons that immediately spring to mind.
In my opinion, the issue is not that we trust or do not trust these vaccines, the issue is that these vaccines need to adhere to special instructions during storage, transportation, and use, and it also needs to adhere to the exact dates of administration to be effective and frankly, in our countries, I do not think, but we are almost sure that our health cadres will adhere to all these instructions and perform them accurately ... So we are almost sure that these vaccines, even if they arrived in our countries, will not be effective well.
The issue is that the vaccine has not been tested for possible long time effect on non human primate and then small human population. i think it would have been better to test and monitor the vaccine for at least for three years before releasing it for general population. Also experts should be trying other technology of vaccine development including the classical inactivated or attenuated methods.
Yes, you can. Because, vaccine development will be this much faster from now on. We will be possibly seeing much faster vaccine development in the future. This is because technology is improving day by day. The labs can process millions of data within seconds now. The trial phase is somewhere we need to work. If by any chance we can shorten the trial or find out a way to predict accurately how a novel vaccine will act on human body without human subjects, it will be fascinating to see how fast we can develop vaccines. Now, COVID19 vaccines are a huge step towards that goal, faster and effective vaccine, and yes it is possible.
To answer your question about the vaccine, yes it is a safe vaccine. It is an injection of mRNA that essentially is giving your DNA instructions for RNA that makes proteins that will permit the production of antibodies that make you stay healthy and resist infection.
The big question I see here is is it safe, can I trust it, is it too soon? All normal questions in the climate of political deception, “false news” and failure to be kept safe by the powers that be. It sounds like arguably appropriate fear.
Remember the Manhattan Project? How that went under the radar and American scientists hunkered down and made the most powerful weapon in record time?
It is not the shot time that disturbs me, but the new technology with an m-RNA brought into the organism. Does the m-RNA REALLY stop its action after immunity is reache? What if by time all cells of the organism are programmed to make virusproteins only? There are no data to exclude this possibility! I would prefer the chinese or russian vaccines which are made conventionally from inactivated virus or its proteins.
The question is trust or not in such sharp way ,In medicine autogenous vaccine is a solution to solve a problem ,this is the scientfic solution of the problem solution and the term vaccine means protective ,safe(Innocous),easily handled to stop such pandemic,or endemic.Thanks.
The question cannot be answered as yes or no. Covid-19 vaccines approved under EUA have remarkable efficacy and an acceptable safety profile during clinical trials and subsequent use for almost a month now. This has been a breakthrough in the field of vaccinology to have mRNA vaccines being effective. This field has been explored for 30 years, but the COVID-19 pandemic provided an opportunity to evaluate mRNA platform for vaccines fast within a year. All drugs have risk/benefits and these are used based on the benefits of the drug over risks from the disease. mRNA technology does not have a long-term track record of safety, but we have now almost 4 months of data, assuming that there are no further side effects in the participants of the clinical trials. Considering the risks from the disease and side effects of COVID-19 vaccine from 4 months data with no indication of long-term side effects so far, I think COVID-19 vaccines have a benefit, particularly for high risk patients. I still do not know if the vaccines protect against infection or asymptomatic disease and it will take some time to have >80% of population immunized. So there may not be herd immunity, but the vaccine is worth taking for individual protection for vulnerable population against severe disease and death.
Dear Marcelo Eduardo Rojas Vidal yes, personally I trust all vaccines against COVID-19 which have been approved in my country, Germany. Of course, as you said, the new vaccines against COVID-19 have all been developed and approved in record-breaking times. However, they have all been proven to be very effective and successful. Thus these vaccines give us real hope to make the coronavirus pandemic manageable (not stopped) within the year 2021. The COVID-19 vaccines are proving incredibly effective. Here's why experts are downplaying the success.
I don't think we should all shy away from taking the vaccines. If the scientists have made mistakes during the development of the vaccines, we will pay the ultimate price period!
