which accounts for the gain of 4 electron/ molecule of KIO3
Thus its EQ. Wt= Mol Mass of KIO3/4=53.5
From first relation
One mole of KIO3= 2 moles of KI
So Eq wt of KI= Mol Mass of KI/2=83
Procedure:
[1] Prepare N/20( your choice) by dissolving 4.15 g/ L of AR KI in distilled water.
[2] Prepare in distilled water ( yourself) or use KIO3 silution if provided
[3]Fill burette with KIO3 solution
[4] Pipette out 20mL of KI solution in a conical flask fitted with tight rubber stopper. Add approx. the same volume of distilled water and about 48-50 mL of Conc HCl and about 5mL of CHCl3 or CCl4. Now add KIO3 solution from the burette till it becomes pale brown. The conical flask is then stopperd and vigorously shaken so that the organic layer acquires purple color of I2. Now make additions of KIO3 dropwise along with continous shaking until the color becomes pale- yellow( due to ICl). The end point is distict and sharp. Repeat to obtain concordant readings
[1] Before I say sorry, I vote up your answer; though belated.
[2] Honestly, I did not care to look into the links given by your self .
]3] The first three links convey every thing correctly wrt KIO3.
[4] I will be careful in future.Having been through this process now for pretty long period, I understand that it takes a lot to give a correct answer as you are under the watchful eyes of the learnered RG colleagues for ever if you overlook a correct answer or vote up a wrong answer. As teachers it becomes our religious duty to be fair .
