I would like to upgrade my pollen sampling station and buy a new microscope on which I can also make good digital images of pollen and fungal spores. I'd appreciate a brand and serial no, if possible.
Moreover I've seen voice recognition systems used in pollen identification. Do you have any info about that?

I use an Olympus BH2 which does not have a camera on it but recently purchased an Olympus polarizing scope with a camera and digital imaging software for polarized images: CX31PF5 and U-TV0.5XC-3-7; CCD CAMERA ADAPTER,0.5X LENS,C- 1 MOUNT and INFINITY2-1RC; 1.4MP DIGITAL COLOR CAMERA, CCD, USB 2.0.
I've been happy with this camera. You'd need to discuss the condenser type with an Olympus rep - it differs for every application. Diatom ananlysts use a different condenser than palynologists, for instance. Also, there is a light issue with the camera images - my polarizing scope has a adapter that can be applied when an image is being taken, to send all the light into the camera tube. Without it, only about 60% of the iight is sent and the images all come out dark.
We use a Leica DM2500 compound scope with brighfield and DIC options, along with a Leica MC170HD camera. Leica provides imaging software (LAS V4.4 software) with all cameras. The results are great. We do post-imaging processing with Combine ZP (free stacking program) and Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop Elements. Leica has a fairly good website with a lot of information.

To visualize pollen and fungal spores is pretty easy: all the brightfield microscopes equipped with a 4x and a 10x objective and a digital camera are OK. Accordingly, regarding your question, I think that the best answer is: "It depends on your budget" and "Do you want perform quantitative or qualitative imaging?". If qualitative imaging is suffcient, if you would spend about 1000 Euros, you can buy a digital microscope of DINO LITE company (typically used in dermatology). If you would spend about 15000 Euro I suggest a medium-level brightfield microscope (e.g., Nikon Eclipse TE2000-U) equipped with a RGB 2 mega pixel camera (e.g., Digital Sight DS-Vi1) and a standard 4x objective and 10x objective (e.g., standard Uplan objectives).
