Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I am very glad to know that a young person has to think very thoroughly to go in the best way for him, be it to impact knowledge or make so much money.
Emotion is the main factor for any change. An academic has to have the emotion of life to be able to transform others. Emotion is complemented by motivation, commitment, responsibility and citizenship. If in addition to emotion, it has satisfactory working conditions and remuneration, we will have a total oasis.
Some people after working in corporate job, join academic with a view to share their learning in corporate sector with the students. In some subjects especially application oriented, such persons do a good job in academics.
Being a realist, I wouldn't exchange a well paid job for pursuing academic goals. An individual interested in academic activities can attain the targeted goals in the safety of a luscious pay check.
I do not think the answer is related to how much you gain. Academic work is not easy, and one needs to be interested in this kind of work, and even if interested, it will be difficult to decide and we need to consider other factors (individual- related and work/ academic- related factors).
Yes, you can. If you feel that provides you more personal satisfaction than the job you have done before. There is always a choice and this in our times is highly individualised.
Thank you so much Dr. Qais Faryadi. I am glad to know from your discussion that academics is not a money making venture but a system for problem solvers... Thank you once more.
Is quite possible. I have a brother that does that. After earning his PhD, he left the company and take up academic Job. All depends on passion and interest. So, this is not impossible. Many have done that and will continue doing that .
Thank you Dr. O.D. Samuel. Though, looking at the momentary benefits in big businesses and well paid company jobs, it is difficult for many to quit and navigate to academic job.
Thank you Dr. Omoleye for sharing your brother's experience. With Ph.D, he will surely grow in academics + better pay. Just like you out-rightly mentioned, it's all about passion and interest.
