However, my research scholars use google very much and e-resources provided by university as I have mentioned in my earlier answer.

More than one time I try to developed researches without Google, but was just that here in Cuba we has problem with the access due to embargo... just that.

Yes, Alain, I know your situation. Here in my home country they set up a Great Firewall. 

Without a search engine like Google, it is really difficult to get updated with new research findings. It is embarrassing to know that even Google is blocked or restricted in certain regions.

Yes, google is helping a lot in academics and research!

It is very useful in research for those who/their organisations have not subscribed journals, E-resources,etc.

Dear @Matthew, you are right. I may say that younger researcher could not survive without the aid of Google, as we, the older researchers like to use it, but major part of our research was done when internet was not present yet and was not available, so there was no access to open resources, we had full hands of papers... Lot of xeroxing was done these days.

Google has changed the scenario completely, as part of the spiral known as the "information explosion." But, of course, the academic work did not begin with Google (in fact, it was the one that gave it birth). Before Google dominated the web, I used Yahoo! and Altavista . And before the Internet came up, I used the library catalogs . In the early 90s, I made even periodic trips to Buenos Aires to see what was new in the main catalogs and make photocopies !! Since then, however, the exponential trajectory followed by access to academic information produced, in my opinion, a quantum leap.

Not only in research, Google is helpful to search any aspect you are interested. Google has become a good friend, when you need it is ready!

I can imagine this, but I seem to that it is nowadays less and less realistic. Personally I deplore this fact, even though I see great benefits from Google.

The biggest advantage of the Google search engine is perhaps the sheer number of sites it indexes. In 1998 Google indexed 26 million sites, in the year 2000 that number grew to 1 billion sites and today Google is said to have over a trillion (1,000,000,000,000) websites indexed. What this means to you, as a user of the Google search engine, is you have a much better chance of finding, not only the information you want, but a wide variety of sources that offer this information. Compare this to only having access to a smaller subset of this information indexed by alternative search engines and you can see why Google search leads the pack when it comes to internet search engines.

On my worst days, I consider what would happen if in the case of global calamity or world war, there was a breakdown of our enjoyed connectivism. We should enjoy these days sharing of the wealth of knowledge in our circles. What we as researchers now deem as an assumed resource also is a very fragile network that could easily be disconnected if major powers in charge decided to enforce their personal or consolidated wills.

It is so diffecult without google . Every body use and need to search using google it is very important search engine.

If we see a new topic, instead of checking books and literature we check google first.

The art of Google searching is good skill! It helps a lot also in checking basic plagiarism!

Internet search engines like Google & Google Scholar really change the way we find information / articles at our finger tips as compared to many years ago we need to search similar information manually (costly, time consuming & lesser accuracy).  Beside search engine, Google also offers other free services like email (gmail), office applications (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation etc), Google Scholar Citation (track who are the researchers citing your articles in theirs), Google+ (social websites for networking) as well as Google Forms whereby researchers can use it to develop their survey forms to solicit respondents to fill up their online survey questionnaires.  Google now also offer Google Chromebook (notebook computer) - see link below for more info on Chromebook:

Yes, net net using Google software, hardware & services do contributing in the effectiveness of many academics activities.

I am of the view that research was absolutely as dynamic, purposeful, productive and useful as it has been today with the support of google. I do  not think the quality of research would be diluted with the support of google, it would only reinforce if we use it correctly and ethically.
