The Bruker Dektak XT stylus profiler in our lab is facing a problem. On turning on the software, an error occurs which says "Motorized stylus scanner failed to initialize and has been disabled. System will not be able to take measurements". Can anybody troubleshoot this problem? I will be highly thankful.
From the limited information, it sounds like there is a communication problem with the device. That could be due to a number of things:
The device is broken (simplest, but usually not the actual problem. More likely to be a software issue).
You don't have the correct driver installed for the device.
You have a bad communication cable (or card). What type of communication is it? Serial line, GPIB...?
The device has simply hung up (sometimes if there is long enough delay in getting a response, the device will timeout). This can usually be fixed by turning the device controller off for a few minutes and restarting it. Unfortunately with Bruker it is very difficult to troubleshoot since the only way to communicate with their devices in through their software, which is basically a black box. If you could communicate directly with the device you would instantly know if it was a communication problem just by pinging it, and you could make sure any necessary device servers hadn't crashed. I would call Bruker and ask them if there is a way to do this. Otherwise it can be difficult to tell if it is a software or hardware problem.
Was there anything that happened since the last time it was working? For example, an upgrade to the software or instrument, a new user, etc?

Device is not broken, Correct drivers are also installed because it was properly working last time. The suggestions like turning off and restarting have also been tried, but nothing worked out.

the intensity of the camera was increased, then suddenly the LED got turned off. We shut down the software after this malfunction and again started the software, and we got the error message.
Did you try changing the camera settings back to when it was working? I assume you mean you increased the gain of the camera? What LED are you talking about? It does sound like a communication problem. How does the computer with the Bruker software communicate with the scanner? If there is a process hung up on the scanner controller you would also need to turn the scanner controller off to reset the communication. All guesses based on past experience. Hope you can solve it.
Camera intensity values can be changed from software only, and we are not able to turn the software on.
LED is installed on Z stage for illumination at the stylus tip and sample surface.
Computer communicates with the scanner through a cable. I also feel it is a communication problem. Should I try to remove the cable and reinsert it ?
I'm having similar problems with your DEKtek 150.
Its camera does not work and errors message.
I checked the cables between the Dektek and the computer are normal.
If you have fixed your machine then please suggest me.
