am trying to modeling a single lap adhesivelly joined with epoxy, using finite element abaqus program for the interfacial property am confused between using a cohesive zone model or a fracture mode, knowing that when i did the shear test a observed an interfacial not a cohesive crack please i need your help so dont be miser.
Nomal fracture modes are used in linear elastic fracture mechanics
(mode I, mode II and mode III for Special loading cases). There are also some generalizations for
nonlinear fracture behaviour (e.g. J integral for small plasticity-so-called
small scale yealding) or elastic-plastic fracture mechanics.
The cohesive zone model is a Special fracture concept based on creep
crack behavior and specal modeling of the near crack-tip region.

You can of course apply the cohesive zone model. It is well suited for Interface cracking,
but also normal fracture mechancis can be applied, if you have some additional
Information about the adhesives.
