As i have to improve mutton production from local ram lambs by feeding locally available feeds. Kindly inform latest techniques, if any to hasten the growth in sheep.
you should investigate on nutritional value of local feedstuffs. For example in my country (Italy - Sicily) we used a lot of agroindustrial by-products to reduce feeding costs and to improve shelf life of products due to the presence of bioactive compounds in such by-products. It is advisable to fix the best doses of inclusion in order to guarantee the nutritional requirements of lambs. We finished lambs on concentrates including proportions of local feedstuffs such as agroindustrial by-products (olive cake, citrus pulp, carob pulp, tomato pomace) and alternative legume seeds, for example, without impairing body weight gain. Obviously working with meat specialized sheep breed helps to mantain fast growth rate.
Sir, Thank you very much for answer. Here (India-Telangana) also we are preparing Cereal straw (Agricultural byproduct) based complete diets (5R:50C) in mash form and feeding to local / Nellore ram lambs and getting about 100-120g ADG which is very less. Kindly suggest type of supplements which will increase the growth in sheep as the meat of sheep(mutton) is having lot demand among the consumers here.
Establish your ram lambs requirements for the growth rate wished + life and exercise / compare with your diet nutrient intake contribution and/ supplement the difference.
Greetings, a good productive and reproductive response in small and large ruminants is subject to the quality of the base diet, to energy - protein supplementation ... and especially to mineral supplementation. Remember that minerals are activators of many enzymes responsible for metabolism and the use of major food substrates (carbohydrates, lipids and proteins). The key to success in the production system with sheep in energetic-protein-mineral supplementation.
