There are many antibiotics that are being prescribed by doctors, can these tablet or capsules be used for research in microbiology? I mean If we use such tablets in our microbial culture, will they have same action as that they have when any antibiotic is added in their specific compositions?
Each hard capsule of diflucan contains fluconazole 150mg and excipients in each hard capsule are 149.12 mg lactose monohydrate
I guess it 149.12 mgs of lactose is added so that this can cope up with pH in stomach and opens in lower alkaline side,
similarly there is no significant change in the composition of media, lactose is a secondary source for bacteria to utilize in presence of other simpler sugar.
I want to use it in my project related to bioremediation of hydrocarbon, due to constrains of budget I come to this option.
what are you suggestion about it?
yup these tablets or infusions can be used for inhibition of any microorganism, but toxic limits should be well established. I have asked 3 scientist and 2 of them said it is a usual practiced thing unless only suppression is only concern
