Thin Layer Chromatography is a very powerful method in analytical chemistry for separating complicated chemical matrices.
As an engineer, I am interested to build device capable of automating TLC such that I can just place a droplet of my sample onto a piece of paper and let the device perform the TLC for me.
How achievable is this?

Nice approach, but CAMAG, Switzerland is the global leader in such automation for TLC as HPTLC and I used to be a big time user/ admirer of their systems here:http://www.camag.com/en/home.cfm Ofcourse, cheaper and more efficient devices are welcome!

There are tools available to automate the process of TLC plate spotting and development. So you want to develop the spot on a piece of paper?
