How are you planning on extracting DNA? I store my ants in ethyl alcohol and let the alcohol evaporate before proceeding with any of the DNA extractions. I'm not sure how much an alcohol-phenol solution would vary from this.

Hi Hester, Thank you for answering, i will extract DNA using Qiagen Kit for Tissues. I will try to extract only from one sample after evaporation. Thanks

I already extract DNA from specimen in alohol/phenol and there is no problem

it works well. The key factor is the condition of storage. Very old sample stored in good condition can be easily extracted. Young samples stored in bad condition it's very hard to amplify anything!

This can be done by Quiagen kit after crishing the tissue in a grinder. DNA can be preserved in alcohol.

We are wanting to store fungal samples for later DNA extraction and though about using alcohol or alcohol/phenol. Do you have a suggestion as to the concentrations. We were thinking that the chiton of the fungus was similar to insects?
