I am confused if my study is belong in Plant Physiology research or Horticulture research. My planned study is to determine the growth and nutritional properties of selected leafy plant influence by selected parameter like light.
I am studying Botany specializing in Plant Physiology. I'm not sure if I am overlapping in Horticulture. Is it ok to overlap in this field? Any Suggestion?

I feel, a plant physiologist will be better equipped to provide some insights into such studies, but interfacing with an horticulturist will be best option.
Your research does also fall in the domain of horticulture, because the results may assist farmers/growers in better cultivating these plants.
I don't think there is any problem if there is an overlap. Many plant physiology studies are relevant to and have implications for horticulture and vice versa.
The study is located between the plant physiology and horticulture on the condition that the plant is belonged to horticultural plants

I also don` t see the problem in overlapping. And in many cases you cannot draw the line between those two ` things` . But I think that your study is more in the field of `physiology`.
Be sure , you are not overlapping in horticulture being a student of botany. Your speciization can provide better results for sure..
There actually is no overlap. Yu are a plant physiologist. Work with a horticulturalist to study pertinent questions and to put your study in perspective. No problem.

I thought I answered this. A plant physiologist studies plants so this includes horticulture plants. But consunsult with the hortculuralist to see if your work fits with their needs.

The division of knowledge into areas and sub-areas is a way to guide Universities to hire teachers and researchers, to the public agencies classify and evaluate the 'quality' and 'deepness' of research and also to guide government to allocate money and resources. You are studying physiological aspects of common crops, no matter if you call it 'plant pysiology' or 'horticulture'. Do not mix the concrete scientific knowledge with questions regarding administrative questions (areas and sub-areas). Instead, try to seek where you can get more money: if saying you are a 'horticulturer' or if you are a 'plant physiologist'. It depends on the country and on the institution you are linked, but, foremost, it depends on who in in the chief - if a horticulturer or a plant physiologist. That is, your question is not techical, it is related to politics.
Hello Jayson, you are on course as a plant physiologist you can pick on any crop whether arable, horticulture or tree crops. So go ahead but seek expertise advice constantly. Good luck
Plant Physiology research is better than Horticulture research.
If it is so that important to define one sub-area, you should consider the goal of your results. When you finish your experiments, what do you want to obtain? If just 'pure' knowledge, so you classify as plant physiology. If you will get an improvement or technique for breeding those plants then you classify as horticulture
It seems to me that the main research will be consider Plant Physiology but the adding research can also include experiments in horticulture. It all depends from scientific plan of your work
