We have synthesized rough metal thin film on glass substrate. I have measured transmittance and reflectance data of the samples from UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. Now we want to calculate scattering and absorption of the samples using transmittance and reflectance. Can we calculate? Thanks......
You need a haze meter or spectrophotometer with integrating sphere to measure the scattering.
I agree with the previous response. Just using specular reflectance and transmittance measurements on thin metal layers will make it difficult to differentiate between absorption and scattering. If you can remove the specular part of the beam, you should be able to quantify the scattering and compare samples.
If it is just for a qualitative comparison, you can use an intense white beam on the samples and see/compare the scattering with naked eye (off specular); you would be suprised at how sensitive the eye is for seeing even very low scattering.
