I am new to ABAQUS and sub-routines(UEL, UMAT, VUMAT).

From the ABAQUS documentation, I realised that the Jacobian matrix (tangent matrix) is updated by ABAQUS when VUMAT subroutine is used whereas in UMAT it is necessary to be defined by the user.

I would like to know whether the Jacobian matrix can be updated automatically in VUMAT without defining UEL subroutine for a coupled problem like phase-field damage model?
