I'm running a dose calculation simulation using TMESH in MCNP6, and I'm trying to parallelize it using tasks. However, I'm facing an issue where the simulation seems to freeze when using a high number of primary particles (NPS).
That's my summary:
- When I run with NPS = 1E+5, the simulation completes in a few minutes.
- When I increase NPS to 1E+8, the simulation appears to freeze and doesn’t progress.
- I'm using tasks=20, but I'm starting to wonder if TMESH is incompatible with tasks.
My Questions:

Hi,
As far as I know TMESH does not use multi-processors. FMESH does.
One thing you may want to look into is variance reduction techniques. For isotropic sources (e.g. brachytherapy) for you dose calculation you only need the particles heading towards the direction of the target. Therefore you can take into account those particles that matter to your calculation. Weight windows is a great tool. By doing this you can use the same or even less NPS with better statistics.
