According to the rules of CLSA sensitivity testing of streptococci (including viridans and pyogenes) to antibiotics must be performed on Mueller-Hinton Agar with 5% sheep blood. These organisms grow very well on the BHIA, but to the sensitivity testing BHIA is not suitable. Only for culturing and growth.
I have cultured pyogenes on TSA and can usually passage the organism once before it stops growing. Although BHI is a richer media I would stick to blood agar especially for a antibiotic test.
