During the production of silver nano particles using plant extracts the plant metabolites aid in the reduction of the silver, the colour change is due to the nano silver particles that are formed in situ. Depending on the plant metabolite the speed of reduction varies. Sometimes just by addition of few tens or hundreds of ppm of the capping agent will show colour change. Plant extract acts as a capping agent. Flavonoids in plant extracts are best capping agents.

however, in some scholarly works almost 95% reportedly showed that after silver nitrate was added to the plant extract available, it was "HEATED" for 40-60mins before observing a color change. But in this case, a color change was observed within 15mins of adding silver nitrate without heating.
