For a methodological approach you may interessted in your paper 'Passenger Flow-Oriented Train Disposition'. We need to simulate/generate passenger flows for validating the disposition algorithm.

In my opinion, there are 2 types of Uncertainty in transportation studies: user (passenger) Uncertainty and analist Uncertainty. Accordingly, the methodological approaches could be different: the Possibility Theory for the former and the Probabilty Theory for the latter.
