Many organizations wrote their values decades ago. There has been considerable change in business environment since then. Will revision of values be helpful in enhancing the organizational performance. How should the organization go to make it happen?

Values are more intricate to an organizational existence, sustenance and growth..The frozen form
1. Likes - dislikes ..... reinforces
2. Opinions ...... reinforces
3. Attitudes ..... reinforces
4. Values
Values are imbibed into the process- people and systems... which ultimately affects the performance...
It is very important for the development of the organization to revise its values periodically to enhance some of the improvements in the organization. The values of an organization during the process of establishment differ from that when it is well-established.
Values usually change with time and the nature of the business.
As Mahfuz said, they should be reviwed periodically and reflected in a company's stetegies.
Dear all, Thanks for your very important contributions. Many organizations just hang the value statements at the reception. They make no efforts in internalizing their values in the organization's psyche They adopt values because they do it as a fashion, because others are doing that. But as most of you have rightly said they can make quite a difference. This would, I think, necessitate efforts towards devising values that are serious and genuine. I have seen that many organizations do not change values with the passage of time. that is another instance of values seen as symbolic only. Also, if people are involved in the revision process, I think there are better chances of success.

Revision of values means the desire to improve the aims or changing the paradigms. In a continually changing and manipulated world value revision should be done regularly!

Ideally the values should be the one that guide the philosophy of the organization. With the way we see the changes happening, it is necessary to revisit the value statement periodically and make the necessary changes to reflect the reality. Changing the value statement by itself is not enough, but also the way it is implemented in the organization is also important.
Dear all, I think one thing which clearly emanates from what you all are saying is that values (which means fundamental beliefs of an organization that guide its decisions and working) should be revisited periodically, because with the passage of time priorities of organizations change. But again, as dear Nageswar says very rightly, merely re-writing the values is not enough. The organization has to make efforts towards internalizing the new values in the thinking and working style of organizational members. And, this exercise will not enhance performance in those organizations that are indifferent to taking values seriously.
In 2008, I was invited my an American hospice-care providing company to study it. It was the leading of the four hospice-care companies in the USA. After interviewing a cross-section of organizational members including doctors, nurses and others, I realized that the key strength of the company was its four values, which every one wore on its shirt, and the whole company took them extremely seriously, including their training to reinforce the values again. That was the key reason for the company becoming the leading company in the US in that sector.

Hardly a revision of values in business will cause a reduction in efficiency. It is much more likely to contribute positively. There is a kind of competition between firms, something Darwinian, other than what is studied by experts, which ensures that.
Values have a motivational construct for a specific action and situation... It is a balance between hedonism and benevolence
