Are there any known foods and known food contents that can increase prostate enlargement related symptoms such as frequent calls and low urine flow most often with urine retention in the bladder?
Not to my knowledge. If there were such an association, this would have to be shorlty after the ingestion of the suspected culprit food, and occur only when this food is ingested.
What about strawberries ? sour cherries ? Reportedly are calling immediately to use the bathroom but no much liquid to justify. False urgency ? Does anybody know of such reported symptoms ?
I have never heard about that either. Do you think about a kind of crossed immune reaction? Products derived fro food digestion may contribute to predisposition to cancer. Xenobiotics may therefore probably be involved in inflammatory processes, especially in a given genetic background. But, I can't figure why it would concern prosate only. It would be associated with other symptoms. Given that prostate enlargement will concern most of men, if not all men provided they live long enough, your observation could also be a serependitous observation. I'm currious to know about such any association. Did you check in PubMed?, Sébastien
Urgency without much urine might suggest bladder irritation or irritability. If there is prostate enlargement you can check that on (transrectal) ultrasound. But the first step is just to check for an urinary tract infection from your GP with a simple dipstick test then urine microscopy/ culture.
I don't think so. The main mediator of prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia) is dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a metabolite of testosterone that is formed in the prostate cell by the breakdown of testosterone. The enzyme 5-alpha reductase converts testosterone to DHT.
