Dear colleagues, do you know works that study the fractionation of Nd isotopes in magmatic (and metasomatic) processes? There are many works on fractionation of isotopes of Fe, Si, Mg (e.g. (Goel et al., 2012; Huang et al., 2009; Lacks et al., 2012; Wu et al., 2018; Zhu et al., 2015)), calcium (e.g.(Wang (王阳) et al., 2019)), strontium (Morse, 1983) etc in silicate melts. It is geochemical and experimental works, as well as mathematical modelling. But I can’t find publications on fractionation of neodymium isotopes in magmatic processes, one of the most important elements for isotopic geochemistry. Please help me.

Dr. José Manuel Fuenlabrada , thank you for this important article, I've not read it. But, unfortunately, the article does not contain information on the fractionation of isotopes of lanthanoids, only on the fractionation of lanthanoids as elements.

I do not expert in your dominium! But I have some perhaps useful insight for you on to base of my method… You have made lot of good study (can be observed onto bibliography and as you have asked the your question).
Such a case you do not have to do anything that you try resolve this situation only in your way…
Example:
Exist two minerals: which containing Nd:
Monazit and Bastnäsite, concentrate to them! (this minerals has lot of rare earth element which means that you need to study their magmatic (granitic) origin… as you proposed Jóse… In same time show attention to Leonid answer, but near their atomic weight… you try to determine their other physical comportment!
(You have a beautiful problem which can be well resolved, if you believe in yourself and nature, and when study the literature you do it with big critics the.)

There is nothing in principle to prevent Neodymium stable isotope geochemistry being used to explore magmatic processes, although the magnitude of mass-dependent fractionation is likely to be small, due to Neodymium's high molar mass.
Because of the analytical challenges involved, Neodymium stable isotope geochemistry is in its infancy and has so far been applied to investigating materials exhibiting resolvable nucleosynthetic or cosmochemical Nd fractionations (i.e. among differing meteorite classes, and component CAI's within meteorites). Comparative studies involving earth materials have so far focussed on characterizing overall variance in Nd stable isotope concentrations, and the ε145Nd and δ146Nd of mantle and igneous crustal lithotypes, with the aim of estimating the bulk silicate earth Nd stable isotope composition.
There have been no attempts published to date to characterize the Nd stable isotopic behaviour of a cogenetic suite of differentiated igneous rocks. However, preliminary work on various igneous rock reference standards suggests only small variations in 146Nd concentration and δ146Nd/144Nd. Nevertheless, there is some evidence that igneous rocks with SiO2 >70% show a resolvably heavier δ146Nd/144Nd than less differentiated igneous rocks such as MORB.
As alluded to by other contributors, bulk rock δ146Nd/144Nd in a differentiating igneous environment might be expected to be controlled, at least in part, by fractionation and removal of accessory minerals high in LREE, such as monazite, allanite, xenotime, titanite and apatite. These minerals would be expected from stable isotope fractionation theory (e.g. Schauble (2004)) to incorporate isotopically lighter Nd than the melts from which they crystallized.
I would recommend you follow the work of Alex J. McCoy-West of Monash University, who is a pioneer in the analytical techniques and research in this area.

Leonid Vladislavovich, thank you for your comment. Our situation is as follows. We have found (or we think that we have found) fractionation of 143Nd and 144 Nd in magmatic or postmagmatic (metasomatic) process. We have found that some ‘extreme’ values of 143Nd/144Nd (and εNd(T)) are confined to specific geological position in two magmatic massifs. The massifs are very different (the first is peralkaline, and the second is mafic-ultramafic), however geological positions of the ‘anomalous’ samples are the same. The position excludes a magmatic contamination. What process we can ascribe this fractionation to? I suppose that chromatography-like process during metasomatism could produce the fractionation. However, fractionation by thermal diffusion, chemical diffusion at liquids interface, or even inter-mineral isotopic fractionation during magmatic stage could take place. So, I’d like to read experimental or molecular-dynamic modelling works considering these processes in terms of Nd isotope fractionation. Can you help me?

The refence you should look at is "The neodymium stable isotope composition of the silicate Earth and chondrites" by McCoy-West et. al. in Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 480 (2017). Check out Section 4.3 "Modification of stable Nd isotopes during magmatic processes" (see also Table 2 and Fig.5). I would emphasize that the finding I referred to is based on the analysis of disparate igneous rock reference standards, so that further work on a co-genetic igneous rock series would be required to confirm it.

From your last post it seems that you do not enough understand the tectono-geomorphology of the studied area:
Onto the basics of the last comment can be said that the two massives had originated from different magma… The effect of peralkaline magma influenced the mafic-ultramafic magma. That is why I think that you have to test this situation… focussing onto the material peralkaline massive… I do not know anything about peralkaline massive others rare elements but onto the base of information… It seems that in the peralkaline massive matter has same bigger content of U and Th isotopes… Only one question you have to determine… That the Peralkaline massive magma had any influence onto the formation of massive with (ultra-maffic magma)…

Some thoughts about the problem you have described (ie understanding your isotope data). I do not think that consideration of fractionation among Neodymium isotopes will be productive in your specific case, because your 'extreme' Nd ratios, however caused, must involve a consideration of the time-integrated Samarium-Neodymium behaviour of your sample petrogenesis, including that of any mass-transferring fluids, given the radiogenic origin of 143Nd (your original question seemed to me to do with non-radiogenic Nd isotope behaviour). The variance you observe in your samples is sure to be dominated by fractionation processes between Samarium and Neodymium integrated over time, rather than any type of mass-dependent fractionation among Nd isotopes themselves. I would recommend you get hold of a copy of Don de Paolo's textbook "Neodymium Isotope Geochemistry" especially part 3, dealing with ignous processes. There are some good case histories that might guide you in the right direction! It goes without saying that you will need to integrate all your other supporting field, petrographic and geochemical data to get a reasonable interpretation. Good luck!

we have decided to re-measure our anomalous samples. Then, I hope, we will continue this interesting discussion.
144Nd/143Nd and 87Sr/86Sr isotopes are traditional or radiogenic isotopes. Such ratios of Nd and Sr isotopes do not fractionate during magmatic processes such as partial melting, fractional crystellization etc. Therefore, nd and sr isotopes are robust to determine the source of the magma, crustal contamination and metasomatism. So we can model that how much crustal component or subduction components have been contributed to the mantle source from which a particular rocks have been formed.
