Can ICECI be used alone for classification of external causes of injuries in a cross-sectional study?

ICECI is complementary to ICD-10 for classifying the external causes of injuries, so can it be used independently as a classification system for external causes of injury in a cross-sectional study? or it is necessary it to ultimately relate the codes with ICD-10?

If you were to apply the principle of causality to injuries you may find it helpful in the first instance is to understand the causation phenomenon. The principle asserts that causation leads to an effect, the injury. In my view sport-related injuries are an extrinsic phenomenon and causation is multi-dimensional.
