I will be conducting the TBARS asay and it says to use BHT as the positive control. However, upon checking primary and secondary reference standards of BHT is too expensive. Can I use a food grade standard instead?
I would not suggest you to use the food grade BHT standard for your TBARS assay since the purity of BHT as a positive control is one of the concerns. If you are not in position to afford BHT (high purity grade; analytical standard), you can follow the protocol published in Methods in Enzymology, Volume 52, 1978, Pages 302-310.
