I need a silymarin dried extract. First, I have removed the oil from the seeds and then extracted by ethanol (96%). Next, I put it (ethanolic extract) into a vacuum oven (50 degree centigrade). But after a given time, I could not get a dried powder and instead I have a gel-like (semi-solid) substance.
Can I use a freeze dryer to get the dried powder of silymarin?

Yes, I think you can use a freeze dryer. This will preserve the copounds without alterations due to temperature. If you have problems try adding manitol into the solution before freeze-drying your extract.
As an alternative, and if you have access to a fluid bed dryier you could try spray drying of the same soution. Best regards.
Yes Freeze drying is the best option. If you have spray drying in your university, you can try that. Because you will get the product in half an hour to one hour.
