Yes you can definitely design voltage tracking controller using for example model predictive control scheme, which solves an underlying optimal control problem in a receding horizon fashion. You can use averaged or hybrid models of a converter for optimal controller design. Since very high bandwidth is normally required in these converters to achieve good performance (small ripple, line and load regulation), the main challenge is to solve optimal control problem efficiently on-line within a very short switching/sampling time, which is normally at the order ms or us. There has been a lot of progress in this regard recently. See for example, following papers and references there in for detailed treatment of various optimal and predictive control techniques in power electronics. There is also a book titled "Predictive Control of Power Converters and Electrical Drives by Jose Rodriguez, Patricio Cortes", which might be interesting for you. Good luck !

Respected all, 

I went through the literature of solving these problems . But I applied a simple method  by bypassing all the mathematical method delineated in the literature .I chose my horizon to be a single switching cycle and tried to find d(i.e duty ratio) in each cycle for which the gradient of my cost function ( Vref-Vo)^2 will achieve the minimum value and move on. 

I constructed an open loop map of the Cuk converter by state space design and then implemented the algorithm but it doesnot work and i cannot conceptually understand why? I am attaching the code(m file) if someone wants to see it.
