So, I'm a student of MS clinical psychology, currently working on my thesis. I wanted to explore the impact of perceived parenting style on the degree of morality among mental healthcare professionals. I was told that the two variables are from two different domains of life, i.e., perceived parenting style is related to home/domestic domain and the scale for morality is related to occupational domain. And that this makes the variables lack connection.
Is that true?
Can I really not assess this relationship? The impact of PPS on the morality of people in this profession?
Please, a quick answer would be highly appreciated.

Aiza, for conduct a research you needs to identify an issue and a problem,
Your issue: morality in occupation
Problem: childhood impact the morality of an individual
Research question; How parenting style influence morality of an individual?
I assume, your supervisor not allowing this for research telling, its very weak relationship. With respect to all my (your) argument is,
we don’t know the result and a pure research is to find the unknown, on this ground we are looking for unknown answer.
Second is, it’s very true that only parenting style, childhood is not all for develop morality as there were so many other factors were there like; occupational environment, hierarchy pressure, surrounding pressure, nepotism ....
Therefore, I will suggest to you select the independent variables and it’s attribute (indicators for measure). It’s very important to claim your research though and establish the relationship.
Occupational morality= parenting style + childhood memory + childhood trauma + Family morality + job environment + hierarchy pressure
Now, select the indicators for independent variable, like
Parenting style =........ +........+.........
(Fill this blank)
To fill this you need to know previous research on issue and can take the variable (indicators /attributable) previous researchers use. OR can take from theories you study in text books.
Then you can visualize your research and can establish argument and relationship for your study.

I did select personality traits (the big five) as my co variate variable because we know that these traits can have a big influence on human behaviour. Do you think that it's enough? Because there will a lot of indicators and I wont be able to add all of them.

It can be. Actually it depends on your specific objectives.
Write your specific objectives then think "using what you can explain your specific objectives".
You will find all variables, co-variables, it will come in your mind automatically.
