I've tested a variety of reagents for the synthesis of a compound and found one that has never been used before and yields a good product. after my experiments i did some research and came across one patent that has used the same reagent but in synthesis of similar compounds, the claims are very general they have mentioned general classes of compounds synthesized with this reagent (which can somehow include my compound too). but their procedure is completely different than mine. I was wondering is there still a chance to publish an article or does it interfere with the patent? i don't have any experience in these subjects ,so any help would be appreciated.
If you think that your findings would provide something new in this aspect then you can proceed for publishing.
Since "their procedure is completely different than mine", you have discovered something new! Even if it is the same reagent to make the same compound. You can always submit to the journal, whether the journal accepts depends on how significant your discovery is.

Absolutely! Your article should be about your procedure. That might include reference to how it differs from theirs. Just be absolutely clear about the existence of the patent, and don't violate it. You should make any journal you submit it to is aware of the patent. They won't want to publish anything that violates patent rights. So their agreement to publish should make your position solid.
