I am using Golgi's staining protocol to stain my neurons (adult drosophila brains - sectioned). Since I am studying the very minute retinal neurons, I am having difficulty in picking out their cell body. Will DAPI stain be compatible with Golgi's staining? I am quite sure that Golgi's staining will alter the neuronal tissue drastically, so I was wondering if I can stain my tissue first with DAPI and then do the Golgi staining.
DAPI is used with fluorescence microscopy and Golgi is used with light microscopy. - or am I wrong?

You're not wrong. However using the same microscope I can use different channels for dapi (fluorescent) and Golgi stain (bright field) for the same tissue, then overlay these two images to get a combined picture. My question is - whether staining the tissue with dapi will affect Golgi staining or vice versa.
I may be on a completely wrong way, but I know DAPI only as intercalating nuclear stain respectively counter stain for IF or FISH. If you just want to highlight the nuclei, it would be easier to combine Golgi with Cresyl-violett (Nissl) or hemalaun.

I have no experience with the combination of Dapi and Golgi, but my feeling would say first Golgi and then Dapi. Silverimpregnation is usually very resistent to following Treatments, while Dapi is just a "simple" dye, that binds to DNA.
