I am a non-microbiologist doing some microbiology work. I have plenty of dehydrated media for both nutrient agar and trypticase soy broth. If I need to make some trypticase soy agar, without having to order new media, can I make the broth first and then dissolve the nutrient agar media in the broth?

I had done some similar kind of work in the past. You can prepare trypticase agar media by the method you described. It can also be done with the help of simply agar. The quantity of agar will be slightly higher than the normal composition and at last the ph must be maintained (around 7.4 + 0.1).

@ Gerald, yes you can do it but as mentioned by Dr. Abhishek the quantity of agar you need may be higher.
If you mix the broth media, if you will have the nutrient agar more nutritive, with the TSB features.
If this is your intention, there is no problems in doing that, but be aware to use the g per l recommendation of nutrient agar. Otherwise your media will not be hard enough.

I used to mix TSB with NA together. The microorganisms, which I inoculated on this medium, still colonized normally. However, If you use this mixed medium in agar type, you should add some agar. If you use this for broth, you must filtrate the culture solution in order to separate agar before sterilization.
