Recently, a research group had published an article：Graphene Oxide: An Efficient Acid Catalyst for Alcoholysis and Esterification Reactions。
What do think about the graphene (graphene oxide) used as an esterification catalyst? Now,I am a PhD student,I just want to know exactly,whether this direction will be workable.

I think it is possible. The oxygen-containing groups on graphene oxide can function as the acid sites to catalyze the esterification reaction, at least in principle.
I think there might be several problems such as hydrophilic nature of GO, much slower reaction rate than the conventional acid catalysts, filtration and seperation difficulties for the GO compared to the other resin-based or inorganic acidic and solid catalysts. The paper recommended by W. Jondi pointed out that the loss of activity of GO looked quite high. It is well known that GO could contain epoxy and -OH groups (not only -COOH groups) and the quantification of acidic functionality is somewhat complex. In my opinion, other homogenous or heterogenous acidic catalysts are finally better than GO.
