There some hemoglobinopathies which are occurred due to lack of globin proteins such as alpha or beta globin commonly. It is known the sequences of all globin proteins. If these proteins are made in vitro condition and injected to the pationts like thalassemia i think abnormal RBC may turn into normal RBC. What do you think about it?
Free hemoglobin IV administered will not be uptaken by RBCs. Therefore abnormal RBCs will remain unchanged.

Hi Syed, There aren't specific papers that RBCs don't uptake hemoglobin. Rather think of it the other way around - if Hb could migrate in, it could migrate out of RBCs too. Hb being a very larger quaternary protein complex is only released upon hemolysis and its very toxic to the body so its rapidly cleared by Haptoglobin (another reason why extracellular Hb addition is not a safe or effective option). A general review paper/textbook on hematopoiesis could provide you more detailed info. However one area of research that fits your rationale (i.e. getting into RBCs) is actively being pursued with small molecules that can interact with HbS and reduce sickling in Sickle cell disease.
