There has been a good discussion about engineering and technology in the following thread. Going through each reply carefully, I have come to a conclusion that "Engineering may be thought as the brain of Technology". I really do not know how much I am current to this point.
What is your opinion about it?

The number of connections between neurons in the brain of one man is comparable to the number of stars in the Universe. Thus, the creation of artificial intelligence is comparable to the knowledge of the Universe.

Dear all! We must seek to know the Nature and Human. But you have to be critical to the tasks that a person puts in front of him. For example, to address the issue of creating an artificial brain (intellect) technical capabilities engineer must comply with the talent of the Creator. This is a natural truth.

Hmmm. I see different interpretations of the question.
One answer, my intended answer, would be that engineering is what CREATES technology. So you might say, engineering is the brainpower that produces technology. But I don't know if that's what others are understanding. I think they interpret something else, just reading the answers.
Engineering also creates the computing hardware and algorithms used by, let's call them, "smart technologies." So for those who seem to interpret the question this way, I would answer again, engineering isn't "the brain," but engineering CREATES "the brain," which is used in "smart technologies."
As to the role of pure science, that would be the genesis of engineering. Engineering is applied science (or at least, in my opinion, SHOULD be).
