If I were you, I would have stayed back at home and get ready for indigenous productions of some industrial or agricultural products for which post doc is not required. Good luck!

I believe you may visit top universities` websites and you will find a suitable postdoc position with an attractive salary. 

Now a days, it is very difficult to find a postdoc in any top level University with good stipend. You can try in scholarship-position.com website and my suggestion is where you will get, join first then think. Good Luck.

It is important to define what is a respectable or good salary ? If you want to apply for a  PostDoc position in a developed country like USA, Germany etc. then you have to look for the organizations who are supporting PostDocs. I know DAAD is working in Germany for the financing of Docs and PostDocs from other countries. But you shouldnt expect 5000 Euros to work in a research institute. If you are looking for well paid research then you have to look for it in industry. But its not so easy to find a research position in industry. I wish you a good luck.

Thanks for your viewpoints. You have correctly get my two important points (salary and reputation). As I am new in the area, so it is difficult for me to select only one as I cannot predict correctly that which one will be better for me. However, keeping both in mind I can select anyone if get a chance to prove myself very productive.

My suggestion to you is apply for teaching assignments where you will continue with your research potential as well.

For attractive salary every professional personnel irrespective of individual career aim for higher salary whether it may be academic field or the scientific organisation ,industry development , & computer or electronic media & such other areas .

It is the performance of an individual which is profile ,his characteristic & other contributory make out of the different areas play also an important part in selection process .

For postdoc  position university would certainly prefer to invite them for the position with attractive salary but it is also the professional Phd that their carrying out their research program they may have carried on the concentration of that research & subsequently no other areas of activities because of lack of time & fulfillment of ambition .

They may correct in their approach but any professional personnel must have an initiated drive ,psychic behavior  which may create & suitable environment in their surrounding & in this likely that such qualities may help their to create an establish to full time of revenue for his career,achievement ,last but not the least his professional .

This is my personal opinion 

But why is it so difficult for a University to engage fresh PhD holders for a postdoc these days? Postdoc should be seen as further training avenues for PhD holders, Universities should be willing to freely offer this.

My suggestion, get an institution can willingly take you in with a little stipend, prove yourself useful to them; stipend could be increase and tenure elongated.

Postdoc positions are highly competitive in the UK (and elsewhere). As a doctoral student, I will advise you to conduct good research, try as much as you can to publish from your PhD research before you complete the study and do a lot of networking. Go to association (scientific) conferences not only to present but also to network. The essence is to meet academics who are ahead of you and to begin the process of getting a Postdoc post. Your publications and their quality count in the assessment of a postdoc application, the quality of your proposed work, the quality of the reference letter (your referees wrote -this is why I mentioned networking), etc. Although it may not work for everyone, these are some of the things I did and was able to secure a Postdoc post.  Your focus should not always be on attractive salary, but to get access to improve your career. When I was at your stage my concept of my professional identity was, quite simply, the position I held within the institution that was kind enough to emply me. 

Later, I started defining my professional identity as someone with a limited set of specific (hard) skills and a decent position and salary.

In addition to my previous comment, you can also check these UK jobsites in case you want to come to the UK. Jobs.ac.uk (http://www.jobs.ac.uk/) and Academic Positions.co.uk (http://academicpositions.co.uk/). 

They are very useful for getting information about postdocs and other academic positions in the UK and Europe. Try and prepare a proposal on what you want to research during the postdoc. This may be needed when applying for postdoc positions. The salary may not matter now, just take the advantage of a postdoc to further consolidate your research career.

• unfortunately science and money does not go together for many reasons
