Would supplementation with Asp improve growth of E. coli on minimal glycerol media?

Can Bacillus subtilis grow on Asp as sole carbon source?

Hi,

As far as I know Bacillus subtilis usually grows slowly on aspartate as sole carbon source. The reason is that aspartate transcarbamylase (ATCase) is rapidly degraded in Bacillus subtilis cells in starving conditions. Only mutant strains grow rapidly on aspartate because they produce aspartase constitutively.
