It is more like tonsil than like brain. I think if you managed sectioning tonsils, you will also succeed with liver.

Formalinfixed liver shows autofluorescence and is rich in biotin.
Liver has a tendency to dry out when sectioning, so a wet ice tray helps to prevent them cracking when sectioning. It is very prone to high background, even when using polymers.
