Recent times significant publications has come up in the area of biological production of AuNP and AgNP. There are few publications which attempted to suggest plausible mechanism of nanoparticle production using such sources. For example Loo et.al (Int J Nanomedicine. 2012; 7: 4263–4267. ) suggested role of amine groups towards this bioconversion. Similar numerous papers are already available. However, very few publications were actually able to identify the responsible molecule. In one of our publication we attempted to identify the responsible molecule for biological production of AuNP using rice bran. You may have a look at that also.I think diverse group of molecules like phenolic compounds, amino compounds, steroids etc may play a role for Agnp biosynthesis and obviously this will depend on the type of plant sources one is using.
mechanism behind the biosynthesis is very complex. We have explained in our recent papers as amine and polyphenols are mainly responsible for the reduction process. Please see my following papers:
1.Potential Theranostics Application of Bio-Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles (4-in-1 System).
2.Potential therapeutic and diagnostic applications of one-step in situ biosynthesized gold nanoconjugates (2-in-1 system) in cancer treatment
3.Green chemistry approach for the synthesis and stabilization of biocompatible gold nanoparticles and their potential applications in cancer therapy.

Mechanisms of Ag nanoparticles synthesis by leaf extract . This depends on the type of plant & constituents present in plant leaves either saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, anthocyanins which are responsible for the reduction of Ag nitrate to Ag NPs
if u want to synthesize silver NPs go for currry leaf extract since it contain carbazoles or go for neem leaf extract. it will produce NPs within some hours.
Go for fruit extracts if u want to synthesis it by sunlight irradiation method because of meager amount of acid present in the fruit. In case of leaf extract tanins and flavonoids are the reason for reduction of nitrate groups.
