Currently pursuing my Master in Philosophy research work in Bio-acoustics. Need to record wide range of animal sounds which includes insects, amphibians, birds, bats and other animals of Western ghats. My plan to select "1/8-inch pressure-field microphone, 6.5 Hz to 140 kHz", and can anyone suggest a worthy recorder for this frequency range.

A good standard for bio-acoustics work is Wildlife Acoustics. If you wish to do accurate analysis of VLF sounds around 6 Hz, you'll need to record at a lower sample rate. Commercial recorders ala Zoom etc are not designed for scientific recording. Also it's hard to get anything below 10 Hz on off the shelf mice (Wildlife Acoustics has their own proprietary mice as well). They're NOT the most intuitive interface but not ruinously expensive either. http://www.wildlifeacoustics.com
